Windy weather for Easter Sunday in the Maritimes

The wind will begin to pick up Sunday afternoon for parts of the Maritimes. As a result, Environment Canada has issued some wind warnings – and even a winter storm warning.

New Brunswick

Northeastern New Brunswick is under a wind warning.

This includes the Bathurst and Chaleur regions, as well as the Acadian Peninsula.

Environment Canada said northwesterly wind gusts up to 90 km/h will begin Sunday afternoon and last into the evening. It said loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

There could be utility outages as a result of the wind.

Nova Scotia

Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement for Cape Breton.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Inverness County. Environment Canada said there could be 20 cm of snow or more over the Highlands by Monday morning.

Communities near the coast, from Mabou to the Meat Cove area, will see a mixture of snow and rain with little accumulations. Communities near the coast in Victoria County, from Dingwall southward to Englishtown, will experience some scattered showers and flurries.

Environment Canada said the main concern is accumulating snow over higher terrain on Route 30. Visibility may be reduced suddenly during heavy snow.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada has also issued a wind warning for northeastern Nova Scotia, including parts of Cape Breton.

Maximum wind gusts up to 90 km/h from the northwest are expected over exposed areas beginning Sunday evening.

The wind could cause utility outages. The wind is expected to calm down Monday morning.

Prince Edward Island

The entirety of Prince Edward Island is under a wind warning.

The wind is expected to pick up Sunday evening. Environment Canada said maximum wind gusts up to 90 km/h from the northwest are expected over exposed areas.

It said high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Drivers could deal with hazardous conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.

The wind is expected to diminish early Monday morning.
