Cape Breton oatcakes recalled for undeclared almonds

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced a national recall on products from the Cape Breton Oatcake Society.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a national recall on products from the Cape Breton Oatcake Society because they contain almonds that are not declared on the label.

The announcement came Wednesday after a consumer complaint, said the recall warning from the Government of Canada.

The federal government listed Cape Breton Oatcake Society’s English Toffee 2-Pack and 12-pack in the recall. A complete list of affected products can be found on the Government of Canada website.

Consumers who are allergic or sensitive to the recalled products should not consume the oatcakes, said the recall warning. It said the products should be thrown out or returned and not sold or distributed.

CFIA said they are verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the market and conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

The Cape Breton Oatcake Society in Saint John, N.B., sells online and distributes its products across the country.
